Shout out to all the sisters!!
The Wheeler Centre in Melbourne has just announced the lineup for Broadside – a new ‘unapologetically feminist’ ideas festival scheduled for the 9th and 10th of November.
The two day programme includes some major feminist hard-hitters, such as Zadie Smith, Helen Garner, Nayuka Gorrie, Aminatou Sow, Jamila Rizvi, Mehreen Faruqui and Sarah Krasnostein, amongst other greats. Topics such as decolonising feminism, rebellion and speaking out, reclaiming public spaces and feminism and capitalism will round out the agenda. Not to mention the formidable Monica Lewinsky, who will close out the festival on Sunday night with a conversation on anti-bullying activism and her advocacy of it.
Broadside will also host a Teen Day on Friday 8th November; “a space for young people, particularly those from marginalised communities, to come together to talk, to learn, listen and create, to develop their individual creative practice and make some collective noise.” Teen Day will offer workshops and free talks for young people from public high schools and youth organisations.
Full weekend packages, day passes and individual session tickets can be purchased now at https://broadside.wheelercentre.com. Also check them out on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and at #broadside2019.
