What’s This Relatable Thing All About?
Relatable was created to provide a news, lifestyle and resource platform for women typically underrepresented by mainstream media. Through the power of storytelling and community, we want to create a safe space for these women to be their true selves with the support of like-minded individuals and organisations.
We want to build a home where representation truly matters; specifically in the spaces of body acceptance and size inclusion, identity (including race, sexuality and gender), mental health, women’s rights issues and our everyday state of mind. We want to help women build their courage, embrace vulnerability and be comfortable in their own skin; to not feel marginalised, suppressed or pressured into being someone they are not.
We want to encourage women to share their experiences; the good, the bad, the painful and wonderful. We want to help you relate to each other.
Who’s the Brains Behind this Lady Love-fest?
Hey! Hi there! Hello! It’s us!
We are Liz, Kim and Lauren, three everyday women who want to share with, learn from and listen to other everyday women. We have shed our corporate skin (finally!) and poured our hearts into building this community for you and with you.
Because we struggle with what you struggle with. We are learning to love and accept our minds and bodies; to embrace the flawed and fabulous bits, just like you. We are finding our own identities, discovering who we truly are and how we belong. And we are standing up for ourselves, empowering each other and creating a space for all of us. Together.
How are you going to help little ol’ me?
Well, we’re glad you asked!
We’re creating this community for you, about you and because of you; so we go where you want us to go.
We aim to provide content (and soon, workshops) which showcase the many walks of life; not just the status quo. We promise to listen and encourage every woman with a story to share and a perspective to give. With decades of coaching, development, counselling and ‘people work’ under our belts, we want to offer you helpful, practical, constructive advice. That might come from us personally or it might come from our network of wonderful women; it may even come from you!
We expect you to keep us in check too – there will be times when we might not get it right, and we encourage constructive feedback and conversation. The objective is not to dictate to you; we are all in this together.
We promise to:
Provide content which showcases many walks of life; not just the status quo;
Embrace every woman with a perspective to share;
Listen to feedback and take constructive criticism on board (we’re not always going to get it right!);
Only advertise those services/products with the same ethos and commitment to equality as us.
You’ll Let Me Have a Voice?
Absolutely, everyone deserves to be heard. We can’t do this without you! And we have some storytelling principles which might help give you some direction.
It’s important that we all use our voices for the following:
For Good and Truth:
be authentic, thoughtful and responsible;
To Shine A Light:
on topics otherwise suppressed or misunderstood;
As An Ally:
to stand beside, to champion, to represent the underrepresented;
To Educate:
by providing the completeness of stories, demystify harmful falsehoods and check the facts;
Without Judgement:
by not shaming or humiliating; to be unbounded in our open-mindedness.
