You know you’re doing something right when a fan tattoos the name of your debut album on their arm. This is the kind of fandom singer/songwriter Hollie Col is getting used to.
Sydney born and bred, Hollie Col’s rise has been a slow, but steady burn. At the ripe old age of 24, she now boasts some pretty decent credentials: receiving Triple J airplay, 1 million Spotify streams, 2 million plus views on YouTube for her first commercial single, Let Yourself Down and a number of support gigs with Indie hard-hitters such as Kodaline, The Rubens and Dan Sultan.
Not content with just singing, she has also written, directed, produced and starred in all her own music videos to date and is currently in the middle of her second national headline tour, The Unholy Tour.
Hollie is part of a wonderful wave of out and proud LGBTQIA musicians, people like King Princess and Troye Sivan, who are singing about the wonder and woes of #samelove on a global stage. Her real and raw storytelling abilities have delivered her a cult like following in a short space of time, with many fans offloading their own coming out stories on her social media platforms.
Queer pop culture is enjoying commercial success right now, and Hollie is front and centre. Artists such as Janelle Monae, Miley Cyrus and Kim Petras are dominating the spotlight and stage, unapologetically, with a message for the world: this is who I am, take it or leave it. The world is taking notice.
Hollie has a knack of getting to the nitty gritty centre of love, life and heartache and is striking a chord with her fanbase and new listeners alike. She cites bands such as The Lumineers and Angus & Julia Stone as key influencers and shares their ability to lay their souls bare while singing their hearts out.
For the next phase of her new reign, Hollie will jet off to Europe to support fellow Australian artist, Harrison Storm. The tour kicks off on October 11 in Switzerland, before winding through cities like Munich, Berlin, Vienna and Copenhagen and ending with a bang in the UK.
Relatable will be sitting down with Hollie at the close of her European tour; we will be watching her continued rise from the sidelines and can’t wait to see what she has in store. Visit her website www.holliecol.com or check out her music videos on YouTube.
